Rev Macaulay's Writings

Rev Murdo Macaulay Rev Murdo Macaulay was minister of the Back Free Church congregation from 1956-75. (See the page on the history of Back Free Church for more infomation about his life.)

In addition to being a beloved pastor and a powerful preacher of the Gospel, he was an authority on island church history. He had experienced revival in his native village of Carloway during the ministry of Rev John Maciver there, and also saw revival in Back during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

He authored several books, including Hector Cameron of Lochs and Back: the Story of an Island Ministry (1982) The Burning Bush in Carloway (1984) and Thine Eyes Shall See the King In His Beauty (1988). He also edited a pictorial history of the Free Church ministers in Lewis Presbytery.
